[indistinct chatter]

Video installation, 2024

Generative animation and colourfields, projected onto coloured felt boards.

2,40cm x 4,88cm.

In the course of a day [indistinct chatter] takes on a variety of visual identities, as the natural light  transitions.

Gradually, in the darkening hours of the winter afternoon, the moving images gain definition. Enigmatic storylines emerge and the vertical colourfields of the projection mingle with the coloured feltboards, giving contrast and intensity to the total composition, as daylight fades and darkness falls.

On a winter day the cross-over-hour from 3-4 pm is a good time to view this work.

The generated portraits are derived and animated from an archive of printed photographic material.

The archive consists of three years of the Danish popular weekly magazine Billedbladet (The Image Magazine). The period is the pre-war years 1938-1940.

The historic printed material constitutes a reservoir of motives, making up a rich source of protagonists, events, texts and textures.

Presented at Decembrists: Extralight, at Kunsthal  Den Frie  - Copenhagen.
